Any Fool Can Start a Fight
The honorable thing is to find a way to end conflict.
Starting a fight is easy — any fool can do it.
The real challenge and test of a person’s character are whether they do what they can to end a conflict.
It is honorable for a man to stop striving, Since any fool can start a quarrel. (Proverbs 20:3)
Picking a fight and seeing it through to the bitter end is not honorable — it’s a demonstration of foolishness.
Wisdom involves seeking peace. This is what Jesus said of His followers.
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9).
The Christian way of living involves putting every effort on our part into living “peaceably” with all people (Romans 12:18). Even if we are treated with evil for doing what’s right, we must not repay “evil for evil” (Romans 12:17).
Think about our world right now.
Do you see people around you trying to end the conflict — or are they trying to start it?
Are political and public figures on both sides of the political aisle trying to stir up strife or bring peace?
If we are honest with what we see and hear, we must admit that many people are behaving foolishly by trying to start fights and escalating quarrels.
Christians, let’s not get caught up in the world’s ways. We have been called to be living sacrifices for God (Romans 12:1).
While the world around us may see peacemakers as weak, God says it is honorable and wise.
